Three Signs That Your Roller Door Needs Repairing

Roller doors are a convenient and space-saving solution for a garage, but they have complicated moving parts. As such, occasionally things can go wrong. Problems that are not quickly addressed can get worse and eventually leave to an expensive repair. Here are some signs that you need to get a technician to repair your garage roller door.

Door shake

Your roller door should close smoothly and steadily. If you find it is shaking on the way down then it is a sign that there is something wrong. One possible reason is that the door has become loose at the top and is not rolling up properly. Although you can try to open it carefully while applying pressure to the higher side to try to straighten it out, it is likely that you will need a professional to repair the door. It is also possible that the springs are set wrongly. Faulty springs put too much pressure on the motor and will shorten its life, so it is important that this is repaired as soon as possible.

Closing too quickly

Another sign of trouble is if the door starts closing too quickly. This indicates a problem with the torsion springs. Ideally, the springs should be doing most of the work with the motor assisting them, so if the springs are too loose the motor is at risk. There is also a danger that the springs may break suddenly, which can cause a serious accident to anyone operating the door. For this reason, a roller door that closes too quickly should be repaired by a professional as quickly as possible.

Door sticking

A roller door that sticks either open or closed is no use to anyone. Fortunately, this may not be a serious problem. There may simply be obstructions in the guides and tracks that are stopping the door from moving, and you may be able to remove them yourself. Be careful not to put your fingers in the track as this may lead to an accident. If the problem is caused by the door being uneven, however, you will need to call out a technician to repair it.

Repairing a rolling garage door is not easy. They have complex parts that need proper adjustment, and there is also a danger from the springs. You should therefore always call an experienced technician when your garage needs repairing. Contact a roller door repair service for more information.
